Why did you choose your major?
I found myself desiring to understand human behavior and why people may feel certain ways.
Would you recommend it to a future student? Why?
I recommend a psychology major because what you learn in all classes becomes applicable to your own life. You get to earn a college degree, as well as learn more about human nature and how to work better with people.
What are your future plans?
My future plans are to apply to master’s programs and obtain my LMFT. My long-term plans are later to obtain my Ph.D.
Are there any particular experiences — in or out of the classroom — that have helped you identify that path?
I obtained a summer fellowship during 2023 which allowed me to work on research with my Professor as well as a fellow classmate. This in-depth and detailed graduate-level work, made me realize my desire to go deeper in the academic world. Because I was guided by my wonderful Professor, I feel confident in myself to go to these next levels in college.
Jordyn is a recipient of a 2023 Culver Behavioral Science Summer Research Fellowship. With her faculty mentor, Nicole Talarico, PhD, she is working on a project titled, “Reproductive and Sexual Health Research”.
