Major: Business Administration with an emphasis in Innovation and Creativity
What is your current position/career?
I am currently taking a year off to travel before starting my career. I plan to start an internship in project management next summer.
How did Cal Lutheran and/or your business administration program set you up for success in this position/career?
The small class sizes at Cal Lutheran provided a unique opportunity to build meaningful relationships with my professors and classmates. Business administration program classes and events have also allowed me to connect with CEOs, entrepreneurs, project managers, and professionals in various roles. My conversations with these connections have guided me toward and opened doors for my future career in project management. Never underestimate the power of a strong network.
What skills or proficiencies did you acquire at Cal Lutheran, through your studies or other activities, that you now use in your current position/career?
Cal Lutheran and the business administration program significantly contributed to my professional development. The wide range of courses in the business administration catalogue provided knowledge on various aspects of business, including finance, marketing, business law, ethics, etc. Being open-minded and flexible was key to succeeding in these classes. Among the most important skills, my problem-solving, research, creativity, and collaboration abilities grew the most. The knowledge gained in the business administration program is transferrable to virtually any career.
In general, what were some of your favorite aspects of the business administration program? Such as research, classes, professors, etc.
The professors in the business administration program made my experience unforgettable. From active classroom discussions to professional support, they were always willing to help in any way they could. One of my favorite aspects of the business administration program itself was my emphasis area, Innovation and Creativity. The entrepreneurship classes walked us through the entire business development process from idea generation to launch. Participating in the New Venture Fair was one of my favorite projects. Months of business development culminated in pitching my group’s business, Tiny Connections, to community members and investors. Tiny Connections was very well received, and my group was awarded the Best Team prize.
How did your emphasis aid you in your path and studies? Why did you choose your minor?
I chose my emphasis in innovation and creativity, because I wanted to develop my entrepreneurial skills. Owning a business and reimagining processes have always appealed to me. Many businesses today are shifting their processes and product offerings to adapt to changing customer desires and technological advancements. As an aspiring project manager, I recognized that having the skills necessary to guide companies through these shifts would make me an invaluable asset.
