Major: Business Administration with an emphasis in Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Minor: Political Science
Why did you choose your major?
I chose my major because I have always been drawn to business and entrepreneurship. I was first introduced to this industry when I created a Poshmark account and started selling clothing from my closet. I quickly became obsessed with sustainable fashion and seriously considered chasing my dream of having a brand of my own. However, it wasn’t until I got the Steven Dorfman Scholarship at CLU that I finally felt like it could become a reality—I’ve been lucky enough to receive validation and support from an entire team of faculty, expressing their strong faith in me and my career ambitions.
Would you recommend it to a future student? Why?
I would absolutely recommend joining Cal Lutheran’s School of Management! I think that the entrepreneurship program in particular is very strong, and I’ve learned a lot about building a startup from the ground up, fundraising, pitching, and strengthening my creativity. In addition, the network you’ll gain from being in this program is one of the most valuable parts—you’ll have mentors that want nothing more than to see you succeed and will support you every step of the way to make sure you achieve your goals.
What are your future plans?
I aspire to pursue a career in PR & Partnerships or experiential marketing in either the entertainment or fashion industry. However, my biggest passion lies in entrepreneurship and working in the startup space. I want to create a business that is both impactful and personally meaningful, with the hope of building a company of my own in the sustainability sector, while also working with other startups and founders in some capacity.
Are there any particular experiences — in or out of the classroom — that have helped you identify that path?
I work at Hub101, a coworking space and startup incubator that is a part of CLU’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. I have the honor of working alongside the most inspiring supervisors who have taught me a lot about the startup ecosystem, amplifying my passion for entrepreneurship. I’ve also been able to work on projects that I really enjoy, where I’ve found a love for event coordination, forming partnerships, and marketing. I am grateful that they’ve given me the opportunity to have complete autonomy and explore a variety of fields I’m interested in, allowing me to find and pursue a career that is meaningful to me.
