The most life changing part of my experience here at California Lutheran University has been the leadership roles that I have been able to take on. I have the ability to be a part of so many different parts of our campus community. I am learning and growing as a leader, future professional, and person every day because of it. My future career will require me to be able to juggle many different disciplines and departments and my time at Cal Lutheran is preparing me for that.

Major: Sports Management

Minors: Business Administration and French

Why did you choose your major and minors?

I chose sports management because I love people. Nothing brings people together like sports does. This degree helps to give me the business background and applied sports industry knowledge to achieve my dream of managing a professional sports team one day.

I chose my business administration minor because having a solid foundation in business management will help me to be successful wherever my career takes me.

I chose my French minor because learning about French culture and language has been a passion of mine since I was 8 years old. Adding it to my college studies has not only been interesting, but will also help me in my future business career. French is the second most used language in international business and plays an important role in sports like hockey.

Would you recommend it to a future student? Why?

I would absolutely recommend Cal Lutheran’s sports management program to any future student. This program is full of passionate, connected, and supportive faculty, and students that are ready to make a splash in the sports world. The opportunities offered here are better than you would get at any other school big or small.

I would recommend any School of Management programs to future students. You will have professors that care, endless support, and opportunities to connect with real employers so that you are ready to enter the workforce.

I would definitely recommend the French program to a future student at CLU. They will learn so much, be challenged, and have a lot of fun. I have the opportunity to study abroad for a month this summer in Paris with my French professor and a few other students. We will get to experience French culture in-person and fully immerse ourselves in the language.

What are your future plans?

My goal is to work in front office operations for a professional sports organization. Along the way I plan on getting my executive MBA and working with teams across the country.

Are there any particular experiences — in or out of the classroom — that have helped you identify that path?

I am lucky enough to hold the role of Senior Intern and General Manager of the CLU Ice Hockey team. My time with the California Lutheran University Ice Hockey team has given me experience in all aspects of running a team from finances, to game-day operations, to marketing, to team travel. It is preparing me for the roles and responsibility of my future career. This internship has solidified my dream of working in sports and given me valuable relationships that will last a lifetime.
