Major: Psychology with an emphasis on Law and Criminal Behavior
Why did you choose your major?
I chose this major to help me better understand people and develop better relationships. With my knowledge of psychology, I hope to improve criminal justice reform and improve police-community relations as well as create effective programs to prevent crime. As a future police officer, I plan on using my knowledge to de-escalate tense situations and diffuse potential violence before it has a chance to erupt.
Would you recommend it to a future student? Why?
I would recommend anyone to take a course or two in psychology as it can help them learn to develop better habits and have a better understanding of themselves and others
What are your future plans?
Currently, I plan on working with the City of Beverly Hills Police Department as a police officer (currently in the hiring process).
Are there any particular experiences — in or out of the classroom — that have helped you identify that path?
Something that has influenced the choice of my degree was the recent events with the police and their communities. I feel that police officers need to take a moment to understand and hear the community. There is much to improve in the area of police-community relationships.
