I would recommend Interdisciplinary studies to any student who has a niche of what they enjoy studying that does not quite fit into a pre- existing field of study. I picked this major because it provides more flexibility and it feels collaborative since I have a group of experts who believe in me, but also feel free to voice when a certain course I have in mind is not the right fit for my goals.
My major in biology and the courses I took at CLU definitely prepared me for my job as a Clinical Supply Chain Intern at Amgen in the best ways. Additionally, they provided an incredible foundation of knowledge that has been invaluable to my current role.
The business classes I took at Cal Lutheran helped me sharpen my time management skills, as well as learning to collaborate in groups. My major also helped me because the sports industry is a business.
The entire Political Science Department has really helped me get to where I am today. The outcomes of graduates with a political science degree from Cal Lutheran are great.
I have always had a fascination with how the natural world works and its moving parts. I’ve always been interested in how the Earth’s crust moves and the composition of environments and inorganic materials that interact with each other.
I’m grateful for the relationships I’ve built with my professors and classmates at Cal Lutheran because it isn’t something I’d be able to get at other universities. I wouldn’t say I have an exact path yet for my future, but I have learned in college that not having a path is just fine.
Even if someone is not choosing a life of ministry as clergy, having the opportunity to study and learn about the different religions and the theologies behind them also helps us become better equipped to engage in meaningful conversations respectfully with those of various beliefs. It’s also useful knowledge to have for those entering fields that have direct contact with individuals and address their mental, physical, emotional or social needs.
All along the way up until now, I have had outstanding professors, especially at Cal Lutheran, that have influenced me to decide what to do next. These experiences have helped me see that I would love to be a professor myself so that I can pay it forward to the next generation of students.
I remember one time I heard: choose something you love because then you wouldn’t have to work a day in your life. It was at this time that I felt I should be studying something I loved and enjoyed learning during my pastime. All of the classes I’ve taken so far have given me a better perspective of where I stand in my faith and have helped me understand Biblical context.
I chose my major and human performance emphasis because I grew up playing multiple sports and doing many activities — I’m surprised I never injured myself. I wanted to get into sports and understand the human body to help others achieve their athletic goals.
