I decided to major in business administration because I knew that it would be the most beneficial for me and the career I want for my future. School of Management events have made me realize that business is the correct path for me to pursue. I plan on obtaining my master’s degree in business administration and eventually going to work in a career in financial planning or advising. I would say French is a good pairing with my business major because it is the third most spoken language in the world of business.

Major: Business Administration

Minor: French

Why did you choose your major?

I decided to major in business administration because I knew that it would be the most beneficial for me and the career I would choose in my future.

Would you recommend them to a future student? Why?

I would definitely recommend majoring in Business Administration because I have had a wonderful experience with all of the courses and faculty here at CLU, and believe that they have prepared me for my future endeavors in the world of business

What motivated you to choose your minor? Would you say that your minor is a good pairing with your business admin major?

I was motivated to choose a French minor because I became interested in learning a new language. I had already taken French in high school, and wanted to continue learning as I was fascinated with the way that all the romance languages kind of connect. I speak Spanish and I believe that that made it easier for me to pick up French. I would say that French is a good pairing with my business major because it is the third most spoken language in the world of business. I also want to travel to France so it’ll make it a lot easier when I go.

Would you recommend it to a future student? Why?

I would definitely recommend minoring in French to other students because not only is it a fun and enlightening experience, you get to meet other students who are also interested in studying French. This means that you can practice your French with other students! Dr. Fortune is also an amazing professor, and I highly suggest taking one of her classes! She pushes you to learn and think more, which is quite a challenge in another language, but in the end it is all worth it since it will be beneficial for you!

Are there any particular experiences in your minor classes that were quite memorable?

I really enjoyed all of the French courses that I took here at Cal Lutheran, but one thing that I really enjoyed was the fact that the Professor was able to create a small community within the students especially since the class sizes are quite small. I also appreciated the fact that our finals were completely different from your normal final. For one class, we had to create a physical project that was a monument to commemorate a certain event and for another final we had to add a scene to a famous French play. We all worked together on that play and had a great time!

What are your future plans?

I plan on attending graduate school to obtain my master’s degree in business administration and eventually going to work in a career in finance, most likely financial planning or advising.

Are there any particular experiences — in or out of the classroom — that have helped you identify that path?

I have gained a lot of knowledge from all of the business and finance courses I have taken here at Cal Lutheran and I know that they will help me in my future career. I have attended some of the School of Management events that have been hosted throughout my years here, which have made me realize that business is the correct path for me.
