I started as a business administration major but switched to mathematics in my second year. This combination has been beneficial, as the business courses provided essential management and finance skills, while my math major enhanced my analytical abilities. Together, they allow me to approach problems strategically and make informed decisions in my career.

Major: Mathematics

Minor: Business Administration

Why did you choose your major?

I chose mathematics because I have always been fascinated by the logical structure and problem-solving aspects of the subject. It provides a strong foundation for various fields and opens up numerous career opportunities.

Would you recommend it to a future student? Why?

Yes, I would highly recommend pursuing a major in mathematics. It develops critical thinking and analytical skills that are valuable in many careers. Plus, it offers flexibility in terms of career paths, from academia to industry roles.

What are your future plans?

After graduating in May 2025, I plan to pursue a career in actuarial science. I am also considering further studies, such as a master’s degree in a related field, to deepen my expertise and expand my career opportunities.

Are there any particular experiences — in or out of the classroom — that have helped you identify that path?

As a math major with a business minor, several experiences have helped me identify my path towards actuarial science. In the classroom, courses like probability & statistics, and financial mathematics have been particularly influential. Moreover, my professor, Christopher Brown played a significant role in guiding me towards this career path. His mentorship and encouragement have been invaluable in shaping my career aspirations.

Why did you choose your minor? How has your minor helped you in furthering your career?

I started as a business administration major but switched to mathematics in my second year. Having already taken several business courses, I chose business administration as my minor. This combination has been beneficial, as the business courses provided essential management and finance skills, while my math major enhanced my analytical abilities. Together, they allow me to approach problems strategically and make informed decisions in my career.
