Major: Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations and Advertising
Minor: Environmental Studies
Why did you choose your major?
I chose to declare this major out of my interest for publicity, social media and overall human communication at multiple levels of analysis. In addition, being a communications major allows me to pursue many different job roles and to gain expertise and knowledge about many topics related to this field. I chose my minor simply out of my passion for environmental sustainability.
Would you recommend your major to a future student? Why?
I would definitely recommend all of these areas of study to students. As a senior, I have learned so much in all of my classes and I have worked with and met some of the best professors and peers in these departments.
What motivated you to choose your minor? Would you say that your minor is a good pairing with your communication major?
I chose my minor out of interest and my passion for the environment. I have always enjoyed learning about sustainability, climate change and overall how humans interact with the environment and how we can help solve complex problems. My major and minor don’t go hand in hand, but I do think studying these different areas of interest allows me to learn more and have different opportunities for my future career.
Would you recommend your minor to a future student? Why?
I would recommend this minor to future students because this minor is fitting for those who like to learn about the environment, but don’t want to focus on the mathematics and science side of the field.
Are there any particular experiences you have had at Cal Lutheran about your major and minor that were quite memorable?
Last year I took a few courses related to public relations that further affirmed my interest in PR for a career. My current internship working for CLD PR has also helped me identify this career path. Overall, I really enjoyed my Introduction to environmental science course with Dr. Dull. This course was able to further expand my interest in this field because we talked about and studied several environmental categories.
What are your future plans?
As of now, my future plans are to become a publicist and work in the public relations field specifically for the entertainment industry. I always thought it would be fun to start my own public relations agency.
Are you currently in an internship or have you recently completed an internship? Where did you intern? What did you do?
I am currently a fashion PR intern for CLD PR. I work closely with the celebrity and influencer teams to carry out celebrity placement, influencer relations, brand development, and all other PR related disciplines.
Last summer I was a social media and marketing intern for TOPIX Pharmaceuticals where we managed five skincare brands. I managed and posted on several social media platforms for DERMA E and Think. In addition, I worked closely with my team to build and grow our brand, increase sales, and drive online traffic to several online platforms.
How did you use the services or connections available at Cal Lutheran to find the position?
For my internship last summer, I found the position on CLU postings which is a very helpful resource with many job postings and opportunities.
How did that experience change your idea of what you want to do after graduation?
My current internship at CLD PR has been a great fit for me and I have enjoyed my experience so far. My time here has accelerated my interest in working in PR as a career.
