What is your current position/career?

I currently work as a Legal Resource Navigator at the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), where I assist individuals in navigating essential resources.

How did Cal Lutheran and/or your political science program set you up for success in this position/career?

The political science program at Cal Lutheran provided me with a strong foundation in critical thinking, policy analysis, and advocacy—skills that are essential in my current work. The coursework and faculty challenged me to think deeply about issues of justice and governance, which directly helps with how I support and empower clients today.

What skills or proficiencies did you acquire at Cal Lutheran, through your studies or other activities, that you now use in your current position/career?

I developed strong research, writing, and analytical skills through my coursework, particularly in legal and policy analysis. Additionally, my experiences in public speaking and community organizing at Cal Lutheran have been invaluable in my advocacy work.

In general, what were some of your favorite aspects of the political science program? Such as research, classes, professors, etc.

I appreciated the engaging discussions in my political science classes, which always pushed me to consider different perspectives. I especially enjoyed courses on law, human rights, and international relations because they aligned with my interests and career goals. The faculty were incredibly supportive and rich in knowledge. They encouraged critical thinking, challenging us to analyze social perspectives deeply.

Given Cal Lutheran’s suburban location, the professors did an extraordinary job exposing us to diverse political science readings, assignments, and critical discussions. They made sure we were not only well-read but also prepared to engage with the broader political landscape.

What extracurriculars, clubs, or jobs were you involved with at Cal Lutheran? How did these experiences prepare you for your future career?

I was a Resident Assistant and participated in various clubs and extracurriculars, including ASCLUG and Model United Nations. These experiences helped refine my leadership and communication skills while deepening my passion for advocacy and policy work.

Political science is an incredibly rich and diverse field, and these experiences taught me how to work with people from various backgrounds and political perspectives. They also helped me understand the importance of fostering connections and relationships, even among those with differing views. Most importantly, I learned how to navigate complex discussions and collaborate effectively in pursuit of meaningful change.

These experiences also opened many doors for me. I never felt confined to a single career path, and I continue to explore different ways to contribute to meaningful change. Whether it’s public speaking, advocacy, or policy work, I see myself continuing to grow in these areas. I hope to start law school soon, and one day, maybe even run for office—who knows? Writing is also something I see in my future. Regardless of the path I take, the foundation I built in political science has given me the tools to pursue work that has an impact on society, which is exactly what I intend to continue doing.
