I chose my business administration major because I have always been drawn to business and entrepreneurship. When I created a Poshmark account and started selling my clothes, I quickly became obsessed with sustainable fashion and seriously considered chasing my dream of having a brand of my own. It wasn’t until I got the Steven Dorfman
Scholarship at Cal Lutheran that I finally felt like it could become a reality. I’ve been lucky enough to receive validation and support from an entire team of faculty, expressing their strong faith in me and my career ambitions.
Growing up, I struggled with my health as a result of severe food allergies and a lack of culturally and language-proficient providers. Biochemistry provided me with the means to make sense of the molecular reactions governing the makeup of the body. To think that the allergic reactions I had growing up were chains of chemical reactions within my cells. Today I use the knowledge of my degree to help others with their understanding of the molecular mechanisms that make the world.
Right after graduating, I started working in venture capital, with impact funds that invest in underrepresented founders. The environment at Cal Lutheran gave me the confidence to pursue my interests in venture capital, with a particular focus on supporting the Latino community. The strong presence of the Hispanic community at Cal Lutheran reinforced my desire to make an impact by deploying capital into Latino-owned businesses.
Cal Lutheran has a very distinct and developed criminal justice department that offers a variety of networking opportunities through clubs and required internships. The major also implements a structured curriculum that pushes and encourages students to be the very best they can be. The psychology department is built to provide you with foundational knowledge as well as routes to take based on your interests, some of them being biopsychology, child and family development, and law and criminal behavior.
The criminology & criminal justice program at Cal Lutheran incorporates an internship as part of graduation requirements, which pushes students to gain work experience and helps them stand out from the rest upon graduating. The political science program also has interesting travel seminars and experiential learning opportunities like Model United Nations and Urban Politics in Washington D.C.

I am so happy that I chose to be an English major because it has shown me how much I love and appreciate writing, on a deeper level than I had before. Taking the creative writing workshops has provided me with a great amount of feedback and structure that I now consider when I am writing anything.

The communication department was a great way to catapult into the work that I do. My main job function is recruiting, which requires a lot of marketing techniques. I have a lot of social media marketing experience now, and I really learned a lot about corporate communications through my JonesWorks and College of Arts and Sciences internship I had at Cal Lutheran. These skills have helped me increase our recruiting outreach over the last few months, which I am very proud of.
All the Spanish professors are super sweet and helpful no matter what your other majors are. Criminology and Criminal Justice is a major where you are well-supported by everyone in the department. I have met some of the best people in this major. There are also so many different areas in a psychology major that one can learn and study. It’s always something new.
I started as a business administration major but switched to mathematics in my second year. This combination has been beneficial, as the business courses provided essential management and finance skills, while my math major enhanced my analytical abilities. Together, they allow me to approach problems strategically and make informed decisions in my career.
I love business administration because there are so many routes you can take. I was able to learn so much about various aspects of business while still focusing on the marketing side of things. I’ve learned through this department that it is very important to understand all aspects of business, even if your emphasis is on something else. I believe this has made me a more well-rounded individual.

Multimedia is a major that teaches students a lot about the basics of technology and art. I’ve had fun doing things outside my graphic design emphasis such as video editing, character design, and web design. I’m not sure what I want to do with my degree, but I know that I have
a lot of options.

The MBA program will give me the chance to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. I’m sure these experiences will be a huge asset in my future career, no matter which company I choose to work with.

Major: Accounting Why did you choose your major? I chose accounting because it is the language of business. The film and television program is very hands-on, and the equipment and spaces are up to date, which helps students get comfortable with the equipment quickly. The faculty’s connections to production studios and sports and news companies help provide many internship and job opportunities for students. The Theatre Arts curriculum encourages students to get involved in both sides of the theatre (tech or performing), really expanding their knowledge and allowing for growth and discovery of new passions. I have been passionate about theatre and performing for the majority of my life, but the theatre department at Cal Lutheran has confirmed those passions.

The intimate classes, industry knowledge from the professors, and flexible class schedules would be my top three reasons why someone should consider the MBA program. Not only has it been a great program to learn, but the people, from the professors to the students, have been at the heart of my MBA journey.
The MSIT program has advanced my career, particularly through courses like Data Communications & Networking and Project Management. It has equipped me with the skills to develop effective strategies for addressing complex IT challenges, further enhancing my expertise in the field.

I worked at Media Services for about two years, where I developed event coordination skills, such as good communication and time management, to make sure that things were getting done in a timely and effective manner. In my current role, I communicate a lot across different departments and have a lot of things that need to get done in certain time frames, so those are essential skills to have. I also took a bunch of film classes that helped me learn all that I did!
The program’s combination of technical know-how and strategic thinking is crucial for navigating the intricacies of the modern digital environment. With an MSIT, I can concentrate on problems in systems administration, data analysis, and creative tech solutions, which will help me grow professionally and be a valuable asset to any firm. The curriculum offers a unique combination of strategic leadership and technology, enabling students to adapt to and change the tech landscape.

The Cal Lutheran Pre-Med track provided a solid background of information that I could depend on and a great backing for entering the medical field this year. I know I will continue to use this knowledge even once I start medical school. The psychology major gave me so much context on how to treat people well. Having a background in Psychology will make me a better doctor who remains in tune with her patients.
