I chose this major because I love both biology and chemistry, and biochemistry is the perfect middle ground between them. If you love chemistry and biology, I definitely recommend the major as it is a surefire way to develop your knowledge in all of the sciences and math.
The biology major has helped to solidify my interest in a medical career by providing academic exploration, exposure to healthcare-related experiences, mentorship, peer interactions, research opportunities, and pre-medical resources and support. By majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry and public health, I can fulfill the pre-medical or pre-health requirements necessary for admission to professional schools and succeed in these programs.
Sociology has helped broaden my understanding of society and how it has changed throughout the years as well as understanding why people’s behaviors and attitudes change. I wanted to stand out in my graduate school applications and what better than to major in my first language, Spanish.
I would definitely recommend Sociology to future students if they are interested in studying and learning more about behaviors in society and the different aspects involved within it. If you interact with other humans every day, then you’re already participating in the major itself. So, why not learn more about it?
I love how all the sociology courses have cultivated a safe and supportive environment where I am able to continuously engage in meaningful conversations with my professors and peers. In addition, all of the sociology professors have been an amazing support system to me in helping to engage in opportunities and professional resources aimed at preparing to pursue my goals of working as a public health professional.
