Political Science Psychology Spanish Undergraduate

Millennia Gamez ’24

I chose my majors (Political Science and Psychology) because I have always wanted to make a difference in the world by being aware of the political systems in place and what is going on in people’s minds. My majors intrigue and challenge me to pursue a career where I can positively impact the world and the people around me.

Major: Political Science with an emphasis in Law and Public Policy and Psychology

Minor: Spanish

Why did you choose your major?

I chose my major because I have always wanted to make a difference in the world and to do that one should be aware of the political systems in place as well as what is going on in people’s minds. I have always had a great interest in political science and in the government. It is difficult for change to be initiated and for it to take place in our political systems and I wanted to understand why.

Furthermore, psychology is incredibly intriguing and is something that challenges me greatly. Both of my majors intrigue me and challenge me and further encourage me to pursue a career where I can impact the world and the people around me positively.

Would you recommend it to a future student? Why?

I would recommend my major to any future student because there is so much that can be done with either of the majors. There is the possibility to explore so many different subjects within both majors. Furthermore, there is also the possibility to continue researching after completing the bachelor’s degree. There are various possibilities and opportunities available with both majors and I would definitely recommend them to any incoming undergraduate student.

What are your future plans?

Once I graduate I will attend Law School then hopefully pass the Bar Exam and begin working in the corporate world as an attorney right away.

Are there any experiences — in or out of the classroom — that have helped you identify that path?

My father has always been there for me and with my educational journey, he has guided me and always supported me. He has always been very invested in politics and political events and has a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Therefore what I am studying has always been in my life in some way or another.

Not only that, but growing up I was exposed to so many different situations where discrimination and hatred were the most prevalent subjects being discussed every day. Dealing with the news was and continues to be one of the most difficult things to do every day, but it is not possible to ignore it and so I must do what I can to better it. And that starts now with educating myself and growing my knowledge and abilities for the future.
