Business Administration Marketing Communication Undergraduate

Randy Martinez ’24

The blend of communication and business courses centered around marketing communication and business administration allows you to strategically immerse yourself in each field. The leadership, management and technical skills I have also learned within both of my majors have prepared me for wherever I choose to go in the future.

Majors: Marketing Communication and Business Administration

Why did you choose your majors?

Prior to starting college, I had always felt myself gravitating toward marketing and advertisements wherever I went. Naturally, upon enrolling at Cal Lutheran, I knew that the Business Administration/Marketing major was the right fit for me. When further looking into the Marketing Communication major, I realized that double majoring complements the career I am pursuing.

Would you recommend them to a future student? Why?

Yes, I would highly recommend business administration as a major because I know this is a degree that is transferable in various business fields and careers that one can pursue. If I ever choose to change my direction or focus, I know that the leadership, management, and technical skills learned within my major have prepared me wherever I choose to go.

For those individuals who are seeking to pursue marketing as a career, I would highly recommend they choose the marketing communications major at Cal Lutheran. The blend of communication and business courses centered around marketing allows you to strategically immerse yourself in the field.

What are your future plans?

Currently, I am part of the 4+1 MBA Graduate Program at Cal Lutheran and will continue upon graduation to obtain my Master’s in Business Administration. My objective is to pursue a career in marketing and/or advertising high-fashion luxury goods. Ideally, I would one day like to move to New York City or Paris, France to work with a high fashion company.

Are there any particular experiences — in or out of the classroom — that have helped you identify that path?

Generally speaking, truly and I mean truly immersing yourself into the amazing community of Cal Lutheran makes a huge difference in your college experience. While it’s great to be involved in everything, choosing quality or quantity in the work and connections you make help you to create those professional connections and relationships you will make with the administration, staff, professors, fellow classmates, and many more leaders you come across.
